Quill

Privacy Policy

Quill is a local-first reading tracker. Your personal reading data stays under your control.

Effective date: June 19, 2026

Overview

Quill does not require an account and does not include advertising, analytics, or cross-app tracking. Your library, notes, reading progress, and reading history are stored locally on your device.

Data stored on your device

Quill stores books and metadata, reading status and history, notes, app preferences, and locally cached metadata and covers. This information is not sent to the developer.

Book search and external sources

When you search for a book or request rating information, Quill may send the title, author, or ISBN to Google Books, Open Library, or Kitapyurdu to retrieve metadata, covers, identity information, or provider-specific ratings.

Goodbooks Archive is used as a historical offline fallback. No request is sent to Goodreads for that dataset. Quill does not send your notes, reading history, reading progress, or complete library to book-information sources. Ratings from different providers are displayed separately.

Optional iCloud backup

Quill creates a backup only when you choose Back Up Now. The JSON backup is stored in Quill's container in your iCloud Drive. The developer does not receive or have access to the backup. Restore uses a preview and merge flow.

Import and export

Quill can export JSON and CSV files to a location you choose and can import a file you explicitly select. Exported files remain under your control.

Retention and deletion

Local data remains on your device until you delete it or remove Quill's stored application data. Exported files and iCloud backups remain until you delete or replace them.

Changes and contact

This policy may be updated when Quill's features or data practices change. Questions can be sent to denniskokturk@gmail.com.
